Andrew Brown
Director of Bands

Andrew Brown is a dedicated music educator with a passion for fostering musical talent and personal growth in students. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Western Carolina University with a Bachelor of Music degree and a Bachelor of Science in Education degree. Committed to ensuring the safety of students in the classroom, Mr. Brown holds a Youth Mental Health and First Aid certification and a Safesport certification.
Previous to his appointment at Blythewood High School, Mr. Brown served as a middle school band director in Laurens County, SC and an instructor for North Lincoln High School (NC). He has also taught at Tuscola High School (NC) as an intern and the Western Carolina University marching band as a Brass Caption Coordinator. Mr. Brown has toured nationally as a performing member of The Cavaliers and Carolina Crown drum and bugle corps.
Mr. Brown loves teaching the students at Blythewood High School, collaborating with the very supportive band booster organization, and teaching alongside his incredible colleagues.
Jonathan Burbank
Associate Director of Bands
Director of Percussion and World Music

Jonathan Burbank is Associate Director of Bands and Director of Percussion and World Music at Blythewood High School, Blythewood, SC. He has served as Vice President (2010–2012) and President (2013–2017) of the SC Percussive Arts Society and as Chair of the SCMEA Multicultural Committee from 2015–2019. His groups have been featured at the SCMEA In-Service Conference, the SC Day of Percussion, the SC School Board Association Conference, the National School Association Conference and the Lassiter Percussion Symposium.
Mr. Burbank served on performance staff with The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps (1996–2002) and the MFA Summer Symposium (2011–2016) and has performed extensively throughout the United States as well as toured in Mexico, Canada, England, France, Italy, Japan, Australia and South Korea.
Mr. Burbank is a Remo Education Artist, a member of the Percussive Arts Society, SCBDA, and the Firth Education Team, and is a 2-time recipient of the National Band Association Citation of Excellence. As an arranger, Mr. Burbank works with programs in South Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, Louisiana and California and has served as an adjudicator for the Atlantic Indoor Association, USBands, and numerous marching band competitions throughout the country. Mr. Burbank is a National Board Certified Teacher with a Bachelors in Music Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a Masters of Education from West Virginia University. He resides in Elgin, SC, with his beautiful wife, Mary Kathryn, two sons, Andrew and Ethan and two dogs, Tori and Pete.
